KALANI DAVID RIPS TO DOUBLE WINS IN OPEN JUNIORS AND EXPLORER BOYS.

(Aiea, Hi – October 6, 2010) -- NSSA Hawaii kicked off the North Shore winter with event # 5 held at Sunset Beach on Oct. 2-3 2010. The competitors enjoyed solid surf all weekend with pumping 4-6 foot swell drilling the North Shore. The weather was a smorgasbord of conditions with sun, wind and rain but that didn’t stop all the surfers from ripping their heats. Randy Rarick from Triple Crown and Xcel’s Ed D’Ascoli were on hand at the contest to check out the big surf and watch the new generation showcase their talent. Matty Costa delivered an outstanding performance throughout the weekend ripping his way into the final and throwing up huge turns en route to his victory in the Open Mens division. The girls were charging the powerful surf while impressing the judges with their solid moves. NSSA Rookie of the Year Mahina Maeda claimed a double win in the Open and Explorer Womens. National Champion Kalani David set the pace with his radical style in the Open Juniors and Explorer Boys putting forth a dominating display in both divisions. In the Explorer Boys final, Kalani posted a perfect 10 and another excellent 8.0 for a 18.0 combined heat total. All the Explorer Boys were pushing the envelope in the final including Seth Moniz who gave Kalani a run for the win but came up just short taking second. Noa Mizuno clinched his first ever Open Boys win. The NSSA Outstanding Award went to Finn McGill for pulling a perfect 10 score in the Open Mini Grom final and finish with the victory. Three-time National Champion Ezekiel Lau continued his winning ways walking off with double victories in the Explorer Men’s and Juniors. Lau will without doubt be one of the leading contenders for the Open Men’s National title next June! Dylan Lehmann took the win in the Explorer Menehunes while Tatiana Weston Webb claimed the Explorer Girls. Nssa Hawaii would like say Mahalo to our Judges and staff. Also all the surfers, coaches & parents for all their support.

The NSSA Outstanding Award went to Finn McGill for pulling a perfect 10 score in the Open Mini Grom final and finish with the victory. The NSSA Hawaii Surfco Surfer of the event was Eli Hanneman.

NSSA Hawaii would like to say Mahalo to our great staff and judging panel. We would also like to thank all of our surfers, coaches and parents for their support.
